Day one reflections

Day 1: March 22, 2012 Sydney R; Madison; Alexis; Claire This morning when I got to the airport, I was so anxious and tired, but then I saw you guys and I got so excited. Even though our flight was delayed due to fog, it did not seem like three hours because we were all together to occupy our time – and Potbelly’s was obviously the best part. When we landed, there was a slight change of plans due to the delay (a quick lunch), but we did not really care because we were just going with the flow.

Highlights of the day: When Ms. Mahr and Mr. Shawe came driving up in those sketchy white vans; Playing the game “contact”; Bonding with a lot with people who I did not know that well; Playing in City Park (and slipping in the mud); Taking the bus tour, seeing those beautiful houses, and learning that Woody Harrelson and other stars are here in town filming movies; this city is so beautiful that we can’t capture it in one short bus tour!; Eating at the Gumbo Shop - great grilled cheese, mashed potatoes, and gumbo (though I thought it was too spicy!); and trying jambalaya for the first time. I just think this town is so rich with history and is so interesting – makes Maryland seem so boring – and here I get to appreciate things, especially when we go to the Lower 9th Ward. So now we are back at the hotel where the rooms are nicer than I expected… I am really excited for the rest of the trip; it’s been a good start so far.
